Israel Air Force attacks Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in response to rocket fire

The Israeli Air Force attacked Hamas target in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.

The IDF spokesperson said that Israeli fire jets hit Hamas observation points in southern Gaza, and that the attack was in responses to rockets launched toward Israel on Friday.

The statement added that Friday’s rockets proved once again that Iran is working to undermine the status quo in the region, and that they, alongside extremist organizations, are playing with the lives of Gazans and will lead to escalation after years of quiet. The statement further noted that the situation and its implications are Hamas’ responsibility.

On Friday, three rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward southern Israel. Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted two of the rockets, while the third hit a building in the regional council of Shaar Hanegev.

In response, the Israeli army struck two Hamas positions in the northern Gaza Strip by tank and aircraft on Friday.

On Saturday, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that Iran built and supplied the mortar shells fired at Israel Friday from Gaza by Salafist terror groups.

When asked whether Iran had transferred the shells to Hamas, which still controls the Strip, Lieberman said that Iran “supplied [them] to many in Gaza, it’s too early to say which.” Lieberman added that Israel has deterred Hamas from seeking a new conflict, but that Israel is losing its deterrence with radical Salafists supported by Iran. “They want to drag us into full-scale war,” he said.
