Israeli soldiers on Tuesday shot and killed a Palestinian driver who the military said attempted to run over them near a West Bank settlement.
The Palestinian driver, Abdallah Mussa from the West Bank village of Deir Ballut, was seriously wounded and taken to the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, after receiving initial medical treatment on the scene. He later died of his wounds.
Another Palestinian, who was also in the car, was wounded by the gunfire. Israeli medical sources said she was evacuated by a car to Ramallah. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that Israeli forces prevented them from treating her. Her medical state was not immediately clear. No soldiers were hurt in the incident.
The military said that the vehicle raised the suspicion of the soldiers after it approached them, adding that the incident is being investigated.
If in fact this was an attempted attack, the fact that a passenger was also present in the car is considered unusual. In most car-ramming attacks in the West Bank, the drivers were alone in the car.
