Sadiq Khan tells Theresa May to 'raise her game' despite his own ploy for soft Brexit


“I think it is important to recognise that if you are in the shoes of the EU, it’s not possible for someone who leaves the EU to have better terms than someone who leaves the club. 


“We have got to have open eyes, and recognise there is a good deal ahead to be done as long as we act with good will. 


“I think we should as soon as possible give a cast iron guarantee to EU citizens in London and the UK and say look we are respectful of what the EU say to citizens in the EU, we will give you the cast iron guarantee you want from London and the UK – that will lead to a spirit of good will. 


“It is in nobody’s interest for there to be a bad deal between the UK and the EU. It’s bad for the UK, an extreme hard Brexit, it’s bad for the EU too.”
