“I think that we need to understand that the European Union has a number of concerns, we need to address those.
“But, on the other hand, we all have concerns about the workings of our trade relationship and it’s about the prosperity of the whole of Europe and I think that, increasingly, businesses within Europe and beyond Europe, want to see what the shape of that negotiation’s going to look like.”
Dr Fox was speaking before the British delegation left Tokyo. It has secured a Japanese agreement to model a future UK trade deal on the EU deal that is set to come into effect in early 2019.
Meanwhile, EU negotiator Guy Verhofstadt has taken aim at Britain’s Brexit negotiating team, shooting down David Davis’s claims that Brussels’ approach to talks are inflexible.
