After weeks of leaks and rumors, Motorola finally announced the Moto X4. The line took the year off in 2016 as Motorola focused on getting the Z line off the ground, and now that it has, the X line is making its triumphant return.
Announced at IFA in Berlin, the Moto X4 will fall below the Z line but above the E and G devices in both specs and price, placing it in the mid-range market.
Motorola included solid specs with some killer features, most notably the dual-camera. A 5.2-inch 1080p display sits upfront in a similar build to that of the Moto Z2 Force, just with a different back. It’s exactly the same from what we’ve seen in early leaks.
The back wears contoured Gorilla Glass 4, as does the front, with the camera living in the center with a noticeable round hump. Unfortunately, the magnetic pins used for the Moto Mods are missing. On the front will live the fingerprint scanner.
Inside will be a Snapdragon 630 processor and 3,300mAh battery that’s protected by IP68 water and dust resistance.
Back to the dual camera; it’s a combination of a 12MP main camera and a 8MP wide-angle shooter. The main camera is a f/2.0 lens with dual-pixel autofocus and 1.4nm pixels. The secondary wide shooter has a f/2.2 lens with 1.12nm pixels. The camera, as you may have guessed, will be capable of a depth effect feature.
The front-facing camera is a 16MP sensor that comes with an “adaptive low light mode” for better performance is dim conditions and a Panorama Selfie feature.
Motorola is also including support for Amazon’s assistant, Alexa, which can be accessed even when the device is locked. It’s the second major Android handset to gain Alexa support after HTC’s U11 did so earlier this summer.
The Moto X4 will go on sale in European countries first for €399 in September.
